Hello Bayard Rustin Elementary Community!

I hope you have had a relaxing and fulfilling summer. As your PTA president for the 2021-2022 school year, I’m thrilled to welcome you to the Bayard Rustin Elementary School PTA.

Our PTA's mission is to “make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.” Our focus this year will be on creating connections: among students, parents and guardians, and educators and staff.

The pandemic brought us many challenges, including social distancing. Our PTA is dedicated to helping you, your child, and their teachers and staff have a successful school year as we reconnect in person.

Our job is to provide our school with programs and resources to enrich the educational experience of every child. We must all work together to ensure the best for our children. But we can’t do it without YOU. Here’s what you can do to support the PTA and our great Bayard Rustin Elementary School: 

BE A MEMBER: Membership dues are $20 per individual per year or $40 per family per year. Follow the link to enter/update your information, pay your dues, and make a donation.  https://bres.ptboard.com/membership

• VOLUNTEER, VOLUNTEER, VOLUNTEER: The PTA is nothing without volunteers and we appreciate you all! Check out the volunteer sign-up online and talk to board members and find something that interests you! Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, older brothers and sisters—everyone is welcome to get involved. And we offer SSL opportunities. https://www.brespta.org/volunteer

• ATTEND PTA MEETINGS & EVENTS: Participate! Check out the calendar of PTA meetings and events. We add new events regularly.

PAINLESS FUNDRAISING:  In addition to our fundraising events during the year (information will follow) we have many ways to participate in what we call “painless fundraising:” raising funds just by doing what you do every day!!   Here is a list of fundraising opportunities:

• Amazon Smile- Visit smile.amazon.com and select Bayard Rustin Elementary School as your designated charitable organization. AmazonSmile will donate 0.5% of your eligible purchases to BRES. Click here for more instructions.

• Harris Teeter - link your VIC card using account # 5051. 5% goes to PTA. Starts 8/1

Back to School Staff Lunch on August 26

The BRES PTA is hosting a Back to School Staff Lunch at school on Thursday, August 26. With the excitement of a new school year, we would love to treat the staff to a delicious lunch as a way to say Welcome Back & Thank You!

We’d greatly appreciate it if you could sign up to bring something to share and/or if you can volunteer your time.

Annual Open House on August 27

Our Annual Open House will be held Friday, August 27, 2021 from 10:30 am -12:00 pm. This is a time for you to visit the school, meet your child's teacher and visit the classroom prior to the first day of school. More info on grade level arrival times and other details here.

Summer Playdates on August 28

See you at the BRES Playground! Check here for grade level playdate time slots.

This event is sponsored by the PTA, and we will be providing chalk, bubbles and the opportunity to start your PTA Membership and purchase BRES Gear.  Bathrooms will NOT be available. This is NOT a drop off event, each student must be accompanied.

We are requesting a couple helpers for the PTA table - no experience needed! Sign up here.

Back2School Picnic on September 10

Let’s celebrate the start of an exciting school year! Join us for lots of fun with good food and new friends. This is an outdoor, picnic style event. Bring a chair or blanket. Bathrooms will be available.

Music and entertainment provided by Kids After Hours. Fresh grilled hotdogs, chips, cookies, and water provided by Rock Creek Church. 100% of donated proceeds go to support BRES PTA programs. Pizza, juices, soda and KONA Potomac Ice Truck organized by the BRES PTA.

The BRES PTA is looking for several parent volunteers to help with set-up, clean-up and support during the picnic. Sign up here.
